I stayed a night near Kushiro in Hokkaido in order to go horseback riding around Kushiro Marsh.
That pension where I stayed had a hot spring nicknamed "beautifying hot spring".
Even though only three families including us were staying that night, there were many people in the hot spring.
Many local people seemed to take the hot spring.

The water of the hot spring was somewhat uncommon: It was thick.
It was interesting to soak in the thick water.
My skin got smooth after soaking in the hot spring. :)

I went horseback riding the day after that day.

Unfortunately, that day was rainy all day.
We went in Kushiro Marsh riding a horse while wearing a rainwear.
It was the first time I entered a marsh.
Kushiro Marsh is the largest marsh in Japan.


The horse I rode walked a little slowly than the other horses.
(Probably it was because I wasn't good at riding though.)
Then our guide said, "you should bring a whip."
A whip? I was surprised.
The guide cut a small branch and created a stick.
He said that it wouldn't hurt a horse but would work as a whip because the horse is a smart and timid animal.

We saw a few Hokkaido sika deers in the marsh.
The guide said the deers were more likely to appear in front of us when we were riding horses.

I run with a horse for the first time.
Although it's not common to be allowed to do such a little dangerous things in Japan if we don't have much experiences, the guide said that the farm which offered this horseback riding tour judged what to do and where to go by participants' skills.
Running with horse was a bit scary but fun. :)

北海道の釧路湿原で乗馬をするために、釧路の近くで宿を取りました。
泊まったペンションには「美人の湯」と呼ばれる温泉がありました。
その日は私達を含め3組しか泊まっていなかったのに、温泉にはたくさんの人がいました。
どうやら地元の人が多く温泉を利用しているようです。

この温泉は少し変わっていました。お湯がとろっとしているのです。
とろみのあるお湯に浸かるのは面白かったです。
温泉から上がった後は肌がすべすべになっていました♪

翌日乗馬をしに行きました。
運悪く、その日は1日中雨でした。
レインウェアを着て馬に乗って釧路湿原に入りました。
湿原の中に入ったのはこれが初めてです。
釧路湿原は日本で1番大きな湿原です。

私の乗っていた馬は他の馬より少し歩くのが遅かったです。
（それは恐らく私の乗り方が上手くないからなのですが）
するとガイドの人が、「鞭を持ちましょう」と言いました。
え、鞭??驚きました。
ガイドの人は小さな枝を切って棒を作りました。
これで馬を叩いても痛くはないけれど、馬は賢くて臆病な動物だからこれでも鞭の役目を果たすのだそうです。
湿原内ではエゾシカを何匹か見かけました。
馬に乗っているときはシカが姿を現すことが多いのだそうです。

今回馬で走るという体験を初めてしました。
日本ではこういう少し危険なことは充分な経験がなければあまりさせてもらえないのですが、この乗馬ツアーを行っている農場では参加者の能力を見て何をするかやどこへ行くのかを決めているのだそうです。
馬で走るのは少し怖かったですが、楽しかったですo(^-^)o
